Wayside Celebrates a Simple Christmas

One might look at “Glory Bea!” as a theatrical endorsement of local economies: it’s entertainment made from the materials at hand, which are mountain people, mountain music, mountains, and the common currencies of hardship, loss, and love. There’s also Christmas, the season when even jaded people accept genuine tenderness and genuine affection, without the shield of irony. And there are children, the children we remember, the children we once were. At Christmas they come back to us, and we remember how we loved the world when we were them.
